Let me introduce you to my latest obsession. Their band name is Baby Alpaca (omg!) and one could call them The Smiths of 2013. If such a daring comparison may ever be drawn. Others might even call Singer/songwriter Chris Kittrell names such as “the young Morrissey”. The New York based lads have an EP out on June 25 this year on Atlas Chair Records, and at this point I would like to stress the beauty in the lyrics of their newest release Sea of Dreams: Sunrise growing from the sea, Reflections lilac in the clouds, Sea lion’s eyes awaken me, Take me to the sea of dreams. Let’s just say my dreams are never like Chris Kittrell’s “Sea Of Dreams,” but I wish they were. Just like the animation in their new video below. Dream on.

A love letter to Mac Demarco, his band and Sean Nicholas Savage

How do you describe one of the best rock shows you have ever seen? Where two musicians of such different kind just did what they are best at and you just felt so happy? Where the sweat was dripping from your forehead, you almost could not breathe but just didn’t not care? Well the last show I have seen at Privatclub Berlin last week was just that kind of show. First there was this magical creature called Sean Nicholas Savage. Who might as well be called the tropical Marvin Gaye. From weird pop capital Montreal of course. His glances were captivating, hypnotising, his voice clear as crystal , hinting to a sex holiday in Miami so badly, but with lyrics so sad that the audience was left wondering in despair.
But that was not it, no – no. In contrast, Mac Demarco instantly changed the energy level on stage onto happy destruction. I seriously have never seen such a happy, careless band, where the bassist was bouncing up and down like a rubber ball and the guitar riffs still felt so in your face that goosebumps were crawling all over your body. They covered Rammstein, rapped, stage-dived and in the end Mac sang a lovesong to his girl in the audience and mouth-kissed her for seconds that seemed like hours. What’s left to say you’ll ask? If you EVER get the chance to see either of the above musicians live, you should not miss it. Because this might just be one of the best rock shows you have ever seen.

On that small compilation you’ll find that Ms Mr Remix by Chvrches, who by the way will play this upcoming Wednesday at the Berlin Introducing Show. And yes, they are pretty internet famous, so we will check out if them electro poppers are worth the hype, hailing all the way from Glasgow, Scotland and hitting a massive world tour with their Recover EP. On top you’ll find them babies of Teams on our mix, who are actually just one guy, namely Los Angeles, Miami-born producer Sean Bowie. They say about his new album “One World” that “slow meets fast, and rhythm and blues gets dropped into the year 2030″. So hold on dear friends, and let this mixtape take you higher and possibly into the future yo!
A night out with Halasan Bazar and friends
Friends, free Vodka and free tunes, what more can your heart wish for? This past Wednesday, we were invited by our friends of Nordic By Nature to see Halasan Bazar, a psych pop band formed in Copenhagen, Denmark. But actually they are from Denmark, the UK, Australia and Norway. If you don’t know these guys yet, there is to say that “Halazan” is actually a Yoga practice, where you have to bent your knees amongst other things. You pretty much have to love them because they call themselves names like Cptn. Habi Halasan, The Mysterious Mr. Bazar, Henry The Rabbit, Dr. Grobble, Fangdelu und Monsieur Monitor. And they release their stuff on a TAPE label called Crash Symbols.
So no wonder Halasan Bazars Rollingstone-esque vibes captured us from the first minute on that mid-week day, whilst we were sipping at Our Berlin Vodka spiced up ginger mule cocktails and letting the summery breeze blow carelessly through our hair. Feel the love, enjoy some impressions from a jolly night out and be happy it is almost the weekend!
