I must admit, I just fell deeply in love with Alt-J (∆)’s debut album “An awesome Wave”! Every song on this record is just amazing and extremely addictive. Joe Newman’s voice as well as the mix of synths, folk, rnb, smart lyrics and even a children’s choir make this an excellent debut. If I have to name my favorite songs, I’d probably have to go with “Taro” and “Dissolve Me” at the moment.
If you happen to be in Berlin on the 20th of June, they are playing a free show for the Introducing at Festsaal Kreuzberg. I wouldn’t miss it, Alt-J are gonna be BIG.
“I simply run, simply run I don’t wanna stay
Found all my dreams while outside in the summer rain
Rain down on your town on your town where we can begin,
Count on my dreams like a dream ought to be followed yeah”
Yeeees! Midi Matilda have written the catchiest song I’ve heard in a while! It doesn’t even take more than 5 seconds until this piano driven song gets straight into your head and makes you smile. Midi Matilda are Logan Grime and Skyler Kilborn, two friends from the Bay Area around San Francisco. They released their EP “Red Light District” on February 15, 2012 and of course you can buy the EP on their bandcamp for the price you like.
I also hope they are coming on tour soon, as they just stated in an interview that they want their shows to be like Daft Punk meets The White Stripes, but with more dancing. Sounds promising.
After 4 years, Sydney’s Van She are finally back with their new video for the title track of their sophomore album “Idea of Happiness”. The synth-loaded single comes with a catchy hook that just makes you feel good, makes you dance and will be stuck in your head right away. The video features a pink christmas tree, a jesus look-a-like wearing an extremely sexy blue thong and some other weirdos and was directed by Andreas Nilsson, who has already worked with some of our favorite artists like Miike Snow, Fever Ray, The Knife, Yeasayer, just to name a few
PANAMA gave a very very famous band the remix treatment and called that album for obvious reasons “Good Winter”. Yeppa, we are talking about one of my favorite bands: Bon Iver! Songs ofBon Iver’s “For Emma, Forever Ago…”, “Blood Bank” and “Bon Iver, Bon Iver” were taken as inspirations by PANAMA to create completely new versions or I rather say completely new songs that still have a hint of the original tracks. And the outcome is 8 beautifully composed songs, my favorites being “Blossom ( Re: Stacks)” and “Full of nothing (Woods)”.
As a special treat, you can download that remix album for free on PANAMA’s bandcamp.
Newcomer Rhye have just released its debut track called „Open“. And isn’t it gorgeous? The track features beautiful string arrangements and soft vocals that together create that special atmosphere, which is greatly captured in this simple but sexy video. Now get cozy and watch for yourself! You can purchase their debut EP “Open EP”, which contains two more tracks, via Innovative Leisure.
