Elen Never Sleeps – White Surrender

Good morning lovelies, here is a nice little track for you from Tokyo: White Surrender by Elen Never Sleeps. It is an absolute beauty! And I am really sad I can’t find anything about these people… I found it via Gay Vegan Vinyl Casette, a blog focussing on the Japanese indie scene – how refreshing! I guess the only artists I know from Japan are hip-hop produces such as Nujabes (R.I.P. my friend) and DJ Krush. Now I am quite excited getting to know more Japanese music, and of course I will keep you guys updated with my best finds :)

Introducing: Dad Rocks!

l am such a big sucker for mellow guitar music with honest, in your face lyrics including an ironic twist. Just like my all time favourite Frenchies Herman Dune or all American Bill Callahan (who sings e.g. “Tonight I’m going to my favourite island, and I don’t want to see you swimming behind”). And so I found myself listening to Dad Rocks!, the solo-project of Iceland-born, Denmark-based dad Snævar Njáll Albertsson. He is chanting „And then you’re covered in shit And you don’t think that you are fit to be raising a kid that gets to suck on all the tits“ – truthful lyrics disguised in heart-warming folk tunes.

In case you’re in Berlin, you should join us at the Dad Rocks! show at Sankt Oberholz to warm up your ears just before Torstraßen Festival, it’s free. Just RSVP here.

PS: I know, this is a 2010 video, but I dare you not fall in love with Snævar whilst watching the below.

Peaking Lights – Dream Beats

I first listened to the Peaking Lights album “Lucifer” on my iPod in a bus in Sweden, commuting, trees and landscape flying by. And it put me to sleep. And this is because Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis make amazing dub music, which relaxes you to a state when you cannot take it anymore and just get loose. I find this somewhat funny, because when you hear the name Peaking Lights you wouldn’t exactely expect finest contemporary reggae music around, produced by a lovely married hippie couple.  Yeah I am probably the last person in the music world to realize that Peaking Lights are goddamn awesome, also they have a new Brooklyn themed video which you can check out below.

Please buy Lucifer on iTunes or Vinyl.

Video: Vit Päls – Lösa Boliner

Isn’t it just the best how everything sounds better in a foreign language? Summer does sound better in a Scandinavian tongue that feels like fresh air and the smell of wood, that one’s for sure.
In the new video to Lösa Boliner, directed by Jonas Erics and filmed in the breezy-beautiful Stockholm archipelago region, Swedish indie-pop outfit Vit Päls take us on a boat ride that gets the most fun towards the GIF-stacked end part.
